Expansive United States!

  California 1930’s-1960’s

Tobey C Mos Gallery has always focused on the art and the artists who speak through their art.

June Wayne, who came to California from Chicago during WWII, carried the seeds of “women rights” – a position taught by her politically active mother – Dorothy. June Wayne – in 1960’s – founded (with the Ford Foundation), directed and defined “THE TAMARIND LITHOGRAPHY WORKSHOP” in her personal studio on Tamarind Avenue in Los Angeles. The Tamarind lithography Workshop mandated the training of journeymen artists to be collaborators with fellow artists in their desires to express themselves through printmaking and lithography!

Much art originated from the west coast at the Tamarind LW with Clinton Adams, Akagawa, Anni/Josef Albers, John Altoon, Garo Antreasian, Ruth Asawa, Herbert Bayer, Billy Al Bengston, Cuevas, Diebenkorn, Sam Francis, Hockney, Kanemitsu, Ed Moses, Nevelson, Oliveira, Leon Polk Smith, Strombotne, Tamayo, Westermann, Charles White, Woelffer, Adja Yunkers … the list continues. We illustrate just a few of the iconic images created at the Tamarind.

And the Tamarind birthed Gemini G.E.L. and Cirrus Lithography Studio which expanded the history of Art in these United States of America.
