A selection of Jules Engel’s color styling work from UPA productions
will be screened including theatrical shorts (The Jaywalker, Gerald
McBoing Boing), animation from the television series The Boing Boing
Show and industrial films.

Cartoon Modern: Style and Design in
1950s Animation

Amid Amidi is a noted animation critic and historian. His most recent
book, Cartoon Modern: Style and
Design in Fifties Animation (Chronicle Books), recently won the
prestigious Theatre Library Association Award for best English-language
book about film and television in 2006. He is the publisher and editor
of Animation Blast and co-founder of Cartoon Brew, the most widely read
animation blog on the Internet. His new company, CartoonBrewFilms.com,
is an on-demand download service that delivers the world’s finest
contemporary and classic animated shorts to personal computers and
portable media players.
