LOLA ALVAREZ-BRAVO
1907 - 1993
Lola Alvarez-Bravo was a Mexican photographer, and an important figure in Mexico's post-revolution renaissance. She moved to Mexico City as a child, where she later met Manuel Alvarez Bravo, whom she married in 1925. Manuel had studied photography as an young man, and acted as Lola’s teacher. The couple eventually separated in 1934. Inspired by such photographers as Edward Weston and Tina Modotti, Lola established a successful independent career. She created images of daily life in Mexico's villages and city streets, as well as portraits of great leaders from various countries.
