German-born Hugo Brehme moved to Mexico in 1905, after travels through Africa and Central America. He opened a studio in Mexico City, where he captured the Mexican Revolution with his camera. He published several books of his photography of the Mexican people and landscapes, and was an early mentor of Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Bravo sought to capture the spirit of the people and the country.
